I am pleased to announce that we have enlisted the support of two outstanding people that run successful charity organizations to be on the Board of Directors for the Brigade. We welcome Ms. Yvonne Moritz. Yvonne runs the Horse That Help ministry for special needs children. Her organization has been very successful and her experience with guide us. Also, Ms. Debbie Clein joins us. She runs the Bricks Busting Boredom charity organization for children in extended hospital stays. Her organization has also been successful and has grown over the years. Both of these powerful and experienced people will help guide us as we prepare a more formal governance and operations model which will enable us to incorporate, get 501c3 federal tax exempt status, and expand our impact!
I was going through the many boxes of donated decorations today and couldn't help but feel the soul in them. All of them have seen many Christmas seasons and served to light, lift, and remind the owners (families, kids, grandparents) of the meaning of Christmas. I wish I could see into the past of these decorations! I know they were donated from the heart, with a smile prompted by the Christmas' past, and a desire that they serve the next family or person as well as they served the owner. They have soul. Thank you to all of donors for donating more than decorations - for donating memories.
You have to love the heart and soul of the people that donate to the Brigade. These two ladies run the thrift shop at First Baptist Church of Palm Beach Gardens and they are always keeping their eyes open for donations. You can see their "heart-light" in their smiles.
On this Easter weekend we are reminded of the great love, life, sacrifice, and victory that Jesus brought to the world. We celebrate it at Christmas, His birth, as well. Oh how do we need Him, and now. All year long. We are to be His hands and feet, to lift up others, to serve, to give, to love. At Light of the World Brigade we try. We know that scientifically Christmas brings joy. Several scientific studies show that decorations induce Dopamine, a feel good hormone. Chromotherapy, or color therapy, which is thought to increase energy levels and boost happiness, might be at play. Or maybe it’s just the ambiance in general — who can resist smiling at the sight of a Christmas tree being lit for the first time? There’s even a new scientific field, devoted to understanding how our designed environments affect behavior, called neuro-architecture. And we don't need a study to tell us about the magic of Christmas, whether it be from your childhood, the joy you've seen in a child's eyes on Christmas morning, or warmth of sitting with your loved one looking at a well lit tree. Yet many don't get to experience this. It is beat down by despair, perhaps living conditions, health, or other factors. That is why we are the Brigade we are. To make sure as many people as possible, especially the downtrodden, feel the magic, love, peace, and hope that the Light of the World brought to us. John 3:16. And with your help, just a simple thought and a a simple action, we can do this!. We can make a difference to people. We can live out the Jesus within us, and there is no greater happiness and no greater purpose than that. To all of the donors thus far, bless you. You are a light. To all that are listening, bless you, and help us get the word out. Let's take the many unused decorations sitting in the attic, a garage, or a closet out of the darkness, and use it as a beacon of light to lift souls and honor our Lord.
The power of social media! Recognizing that decorations are down and in a closet, garage, or attic and donations were dropping, we have tried a new technique and it is working. I have joined some 20+ Facebook pages that post garage sales, buy/barter exchanges, and moving sales. The sites have a region running from Wellington to Stuart. After a couple of weeks or expanding and posting, the engine is starting to run. I am getting a regular flow of donations each weekend from kind people in this community. God provides, always. If you know of a site I should join, let me know. Or better yet, you join, post for me, and be a light on our team!
Seeking partnerships! As we move into spring the Christmas decorations have all been put away, slowing the rate of donations. This was expected. The plan now is to create partnerships with realtors and estate liquidators. When people sell their home and move, or an estate is liquidated, the Christmas decorations come out and are often no longer needed. This creates an ongoing opportunity to receive donations and put them to good use. If you know a realtor, ask them if they would do one simple thing - notify sellers when they close that they can be Light to the World and donate any no longer-needed decorations to our Brigade! I have a newly redesigned brochure and would be happy to provide them to any realtor interested in this simple request that can make a big impact on a family in need of a lift!
I recently posted that more donations have been coming in, building another brick in the wall. Well the wall is now a building. Many more donations. It just keeps growing. I think God sees and likes what we are doing, knows the impact we can make, and the many in need of it. He keeps putting the Light Of the World Brigade in the hearts of many people. We are in need of storage facilities!
Another amazing weekend of steady donations with a special shout out to Diane Simon of my CF Cafe team, great donation. Received four others this weekend. And how about Haley Young! She is on fire and has made a LW (Light of the World) bracelet. Definitely out of space in the garage so we will seek out storage places, a good problem to have. Help get the word out please.
"Go up to the mountains, bring wood and rebuild the temple, that I may be pleased with it and be glorified," says the LORD.
Building His Kingdom and Temple. 337 days until Christmas!
We are still receiving donations on a daily basis, sometimes several per day. We have started to organize and inventory everything. We have enough inventory to light up at least a half dozen locations, all in 25 days. Hopefully we can make a difference next Christmas. Thanks to all who have helped!
My parents always lit up our home at Christmas. The warmth, glow, happiness, and hope it gave me still lives in me. My hope for the LW Brigade is that we can do the same for others.
