Yes, true, it is only June and the beginning of the summer but Christmas is only 208 days away and deployment is only 180 days away. One of our lessons from last year is we need to start earlier. So this year we will. The donation season has been fruitful and we have a warehouse full of supplies. In June we start up warehouse operations to inventory, repair, and sort the donations. We will also kick-off our group meetings with core area leaders to take our lessons from last year and begin planning for this year's deployment. As the season approaches we will organize additional volunteers to care, light up, and love on our 2019 recipients. If you are interested in joining us, please contact us at the link provided. Be a light!
We had a successful inaugural year, lifting up 21 families and supporting two special events. We learned a lot and will use that wisdom to improve and expand our impact. The year by the numbers...
21 Families with over 45 children across a spectrum of needs
2 Special Events
2 Corporate Sponsors
0 Safety Issues
We went from idea to execution, setup our business and operations infrastructure, and validated the concept. We are blessed and will take all that we learned to increase our impact on the community.
By the grace of God we have begun delivery. Over 20 recipients ranging from homeless to special needs children to veterans and more. To see the joy in their eyes as we deliver trees, decorations and God's love for them is special. Several of our recipients have never had a Christmas tree in their life. We have turned boxes of miscellaneous decorations into artful expressions of the love, hope, and restoration that came to us on that beautiful Christmas Day.
We are just about done with deliveries as that magical day approaches. See our Christmas 2018 page for some pictures of activities. And a special thanks to Sandra Shaw and WPBF for covering our activities this year!
The Light of the World Brigade is now a certified non-profit charitable organization (incorporated) in the State of Florida. This is a great step in building the Brigade and making an impact in the South Florida community.
Months for prayers, thought, and work by the Brigade leaders has led to the release of our Impact Plan. The Impact Plan is a living document that establishes our purpose, structure, and plans on how we will operate and make an impact in the community. We are so excited for what we can do this upcoming season. 99 days until we deploy!
I am pleased to announce that Sandy Goforth has joined the Brigade as a Ministry Team member. Sandy is a powerful a person with a heart to serve. She has been a steady contributor to the Brigade, driving donations and connecting us to other powerful people. We look forward to the impact she will bring!
I am blessed and pleased to announce the addition of Ms. Micki Ford and Mr. Ken Burch to the Core Team. Micki is a powerful Christian woman with a purpose. She has an artistic flair and a knack and love for Christmas trees. She decorates trees for many holidays throughout the year! She feels a calling to the Brigade and has stepped up. She will lead our design team that develops our plan for each family, home, or place that we light up. She focuses on getting to know the recipients and customizing and engaging them in the process.
Mr. Ken Burch joins us. Like Micki, he felt a calling in his heart to help and stepped up. Ken is an operations master. He used to run over 100 airports. He will help us organize the process of taking what we have, getting it ready, kitting supplies per Micki's plans, and running deployment teams that install.
I am grateful and humbled that would join me.
My parents always lit up our home at Christmas. The warmth, glow, happiness, and hope it gave me still lives in me. My hope for the LW Brigade is that we can do the same for others.
