The all-volunteer group “Light of the World Brigade”, a South Florida non-profit community service organization, is hard at work preparing for the 2019 Christmas season. Unlike any other holiday, Christmas has the ability to universally bring joy, love, peace, and hope to a weary world. The Light of the World Brigade uses the season as a catalyst, bringing the renewal of hope, grace, and love for those facing hard times. In the words of the Brigade founder, Mike Fatig, “We are in the joy business, bringing Christmas trees, decorations, and love to those for whom the season would otherwise be dark.”
The Brigade accepts donations of Christmas trees and decorations throughout the year and uses them to “light up” Christmas for those unable to do so for themselves. We decorate these families, gift them, and more importantly show them our love for humanity, each and every one of us. We carry them through the season, and connect them with long term care based on their need. Following the Brigade’s inaugural season in 2018 when we served 21 families, the Brigade will more than double that number in 2019. We serve homeless, teen moms, special needs children, cancer patients, and others in need.
The Brigade is holding several key events to prepare and deliver joy.
My parents always lit up our home at Christmas. The warmth, glow, happiness, and hope it gave me still lives in me. My hope for the LW Brigade is that we can do the same for others.
